Comparison of differences in nutrition between Portuguese and U.S. majority cultures

Portuguese Culture American Majority Culture
Breakfast (pequeno almoço) consists of fruit and café com leite e pão com manteiga (coffee with milk; bread with butter). Cereal with milk, orange juice, fruit, toast, eggs and bacon, are part of the traditional breakfast.
Both lunch and dinner are full meals, which may include soup, beef, pork, fish, bread, cheese and dairy, rice, potatoes, beans, vegetables, olive oil, and fruits. In the school setting, children usually benefit from a full hot lunch. Lunch is a light meal (e.g., a sandwich). Dinner is the important meal. Ordering take-out or eating out is common.
